To install java on the N900, download it first from:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/embedded.jsp

use the:

edition.

put it on the N900, and untar it with 'tar xvfz'.

email traffic statistics.

Based on 1 POP3 account with TLS encryption, leave mail on server.

* send & receive with nothing to send or receive: 8000 bytes (connection closed after 60secs idle)
* delete 1 email: 4800 bytes (connection left open for more then 60 seconds)

So if you check your email every 5 minutes, this is 12x24x8000 = 2.3Mb per day excluding email content.

This will cost you (at a datarate of 0.25 euro per 1Mb) 0.57Euros per day. This is 17,52 euros per month average.
